The story

In a Nottinghamshire mining village, on the eve of a strike, Luther Gascoigne has just married Minnie, who thinks herself a cut above the pit. Then a neighbour arrives with news about Luther and her own daughter that could wreck the marriage.

Luther’s mother is ready to take her son back, and Minnie is ready to fight. A gripping, funny and deeply human family drama, written in rich East Midlands dialect.
